Comments: This is my second writing. I really appreciate the site it
brings back many memories. I loved growing up in Richmond Hill. I was hoping
to hear from any who might have remembered me. I graduated from Holy Child Jesus
in '61. I did a year at St John's Prep and 3 years at RHHS. I worked at Harry
Cahn's Deli. during those years. Would love to hear from anyone who might remember
me.

Comments: I had been a lifelong resident of rhny. attending st. benedict
joseph labre grammar school, and later on, richmond hill h.s.Nothing could compare
with how beautiful, clean and safe richmond hill used to be. I debated a bit
on if I should leave or not--I chose to do so-- Three days before I left- I
saw a "man?" with a diaper on his head wearing robes, hike up his robes and
take a dump in the street in front of my house, and proceed to stride away,
leaving his "Present" in front of my house. This made me feel, obviously, that
I made the right decision to leave . While I lived in new york (RHNY), I had
to pay through the nose to have the privelige of living with a bunch of uncivilized
savages . People, wake up--NYC, including richmond hill , has been reduced to
nothing more than an unflushed third world toilet--crack vials on the sidewalks,
garbage strewn all over the place, vandalism, thefts of personal property, piles
of feces-both human and animal, all over the place--go to the Atlantic avenue
side of smokey park on the weekends when the south "americans" take over the
park for their soccer orgies, and revel in the sight of grown men urinating
in the street by the dozens, between illegally parked cars ,in broad daylight.
they are disposing of their myriad of illegally consumed, in public, cervesas,
insted of walking through the park to the bathrooms. Please pull your heads
out of your anal apertures and see what is taking place around you;. Richmond
Hill, for all intents and purposes , has been destroyed as a decent, law abiding
community. I will remember fondly what it used to be , not what it has become.
FYI-the moron who bought my house has turned it into an illegal SRO--(single
room occupancy). This is a HUGE problem in your community, or are you in denial
of that reality as well. Peace.
webmaster comments- Maurice, thank
you for your heart felt feelings that you shared with us concerning your reasons
for leaving Richmond Hill. The comments you have made express and voice similar
opinions by many of the residents who have left or who are still here. I for
one am not in denial of the dangers that threaten this community on a daily
basis but I have decided and I can assure you that Richmond Hill is far from
being dead as a thriving community. Of course its a battle which some like yourself
decided it was better to leave than to stay but significant gains have been
made in preserving this community only because the residents who cared enough
about their neighborhood stood fast and let their voices be heard loud and clear
to city officials in protecting our community from losing its quality of life.
You can only move so many times. Sooner or later, no matter where you live,
if you want to improve your community standards, then you will have to stand
up and make it known. No matter which ethnic group suddenly poures into this
community, there will always be good and bad, and Richmond Hill has both.

Comments: There is a novel that takes place in Richmond Hill entitled
"Giving Up America", written by Pearl Abraham. 1998. I figured out the
neighborhood by noting the street references and searching the web for the map.
I was trying to figure out the economics of the neighborhood by examining the
real estate prices. It sounds like a great place to live. Am I wrong?
webmaster comments- I will search
Amazon for this book and make it available to our guests if possible. And yes,
Richmond Hill is still a great place to live.

have visited only briefly a few times since then. I live and work in Mississippi
now, but I was glad to find so much information on the Web about my old home
town. I would like more information about Richmond Hill High School and any
changes that have taken place there over the past many years.

COMMENTS: Hi... Very enjoyable site. Found it from looking at Howard
Beach site. I lived in Howard Beach years ago and had many friends in Richmond
Hill. I would like to find them and share old memories. The HB site has a
board where people can read about memories of others and answer their comments.
I think that would be one way to improve this site otherwise it's fine. Thank
you for your interest.

so many memories.

I am a 1961 graduate of RHHS. I would greatly appreciate it if someone
could put me in touch with the person in charge of reunions at RHHS. I
have never had word of any and perhaps there have been none, but I would
still like to pursue this further. If you have any information on this
at all or if you can put me in touch with someone that can help me I would
really appreciate it. Thank you Chris Winters
